<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>In December 2025, Samford Parklands hit a turning point: the first sod was turned and the Village Green moved from plans on paper to works on the ground.&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It’s an easy moment to underestimate — a photo, a speech, a neat line of shovels. But it matters because it marks the start of something Samford has been shaping for years: a shared place for celebrations, everyday recreation, and those unplanned run-ins that make a community feel like home.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="1024" height="576" src="http://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Samford-Village-Parklands-1024x576.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1021457" srcset="https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Samford-Village-Parklands-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Samford-Village-Parklands-300x169.jpg 300w, https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Samford-Village-Parklands-768x432.jpg 768w, https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Samford-Village-Parklands-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Samford-Village-Parklands-150x84.jpg 150w, https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Samford-Village-Parklands-600x338.jpg 600w, https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Samford-Village-Parklands.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption"><em>Photo Credit: <a href="https://www.facebook.com/MoretonBayCouncil/posts/work-has-started-on-the-samford-village-green-park-upgrade-an-outdoor-space-desi/1283844073781879/">City of Moreton Bay/Facebook</a></em></figcaption></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">A project that started with values, not a shopping list</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Village Green story doesn’t begin with machinery. It begins with conversations.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Between December 2020 and February 2021, Council <a href="https://www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/Services/Projects/Parks/Samford-Parklands-Upgrade-Village-Green">invited the community</a> to share what mattered most about the site and what should be elevated in the design.&nbsp; What came through was more than a set of feature requests — it was a clear sense of identity:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>a strong rural heritage and character<br></li>

<li>an instinct to nurture, give back, and support those in need<br></li>

<li>an understanding that the Parklands needs to work for many users at once: walkers, riders, community activities, recreation, and nearby sports facilities.<br></li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">That feedback then travelled through a long design runway: concept work (late 2020–mid 2021), refinement (2021–2024), detailed design (2024–2025), and now construction across 2025–2026.&nbsp;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Designing a green that can shift gears</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">At its simplest, the Village Green is a “yes” space — yes to big community days, and yes to quiet ones.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The City of Moreton Bay’s project page describes a mix of flexible elements: a large lawn for gatherings, small event spaces, picnic shelters and seating, productive planting beds and trees, a children’s play space, plus car parking and an access road to improve how people arrive and move through the area.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The final design also leans into how people already use Samford. It’s built for markets and food trucks, but also for a slow walk with valley views, a family barbecue in the shade, or a kick of the footy that turns into an hour on the grass.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Even the concept plan hints at additional “place-making” touches — a promontory lookout, an orchard and agricultural feature, and an amphitheatre/outdoor cinema area, as noted on the plan (with the important caveat that concept plans are subject to detailed design).&nbsp;</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="720" src="http://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Samford-Parklands-1024x720.png" alt="" class="wp-image-1021456" srcset="https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Samford-Parklands-1024x720.png 1024w, https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Samford-Parklands-300x211.png 300w, https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Samford-Parklands-768x540.png 768w, https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Samford-Parklands-1536x1080.png 1536w, https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Samford-Parklands-150x105.png 150w, https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Samford-Parklands-600x422.png 600w, https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Samford-Parklands.png 1550w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption"><em>Photo Credit: <a href="https://www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/files/assets/public/v/1/services/projects/samford-parklands-concept-design-plan.pdf">City of Moreton Bay</a></em></figcaption></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The moment it became real: breaking ground in December 2025</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When the sod-turn happened, the messaging stayed consistent: this isn’t just about new infrastructure — it’s about connection.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In the official announcement, Mayor Peter Flannery described the milestone as “<a href="https://www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/News/Media/Breaking-ground-on-Samford-Parklands-Village-Green-Park-Upgrade?transfer=64910716-3d67-4c7c-9ebb-ac620d3e6b74">more than just a park upgrade</a>”, framing it as a space for people to come together, celebrate, and enjoy the lifestyle the region is known for.&nbsp; Local reporting echoed the same idea, calling the Village Green a new community hub for events, recreation and social connection.&nbsp;</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Why this matters: Samford’s “third place”</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A good community space doesn’t need a booking, a ticket, or a reason. You can turn up for five minutes or stay for two hours.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">That’s the social impact promise of the Village Green. It’s designed to be easy to use with shaded gathering spots, accessible paths, play space, and open lawns that can host a crowd without feeling empty on a quiet day.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And when a place is genuinely easy to use, it starts doing invisible work:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>neighbours talk more often, without planning to<br></li>

<li>community groups find it simpler to host something small (and then something bigger)<br></li>

<li>families, older residents and visitors share the same space — not in separate “zones”, but in the same daily flow.<br></li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Over time, that’s how a park becomes a habit, and how a habit becomes a stronger community.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Funding, timeline, and what to watch for next</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Village Green upgrade is a $4.4 million project jointly funded by the City of Moreton Bay and the Australian Government’s Thriving Suburbs Program, with $2.2 million cited as the federal contribution.&nbsp; Construction is expected to be completed by late 2026.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Between now and then, the story will continue to unfold in a familiar Samford way, steadily, locally, and with an eye on the things residents said mattered from the beginning – heritage, care, and a place that feels like it belongs to everyone.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There are places where community happens by accident: you bump into someone at the shops, you nod at the dog park, you exchange a quick wave at the lights. And then there are places where community happens on purpose.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In Moreton Bay, that “on purpose” feeling often arrives with a weekend. A foreshore fills with picnic rugs. A park becomes a running track. A school oval turns into a stage. Families show up early, volunteers arrive earlier, and somewhere between the first coffee and the last song, a growing region remembers what it shares.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Festivals, fairs and community events don’t just entertain here. They stitch.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Where We Belong: The Power of a Local Stage</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Some festivals lead with spectacle. <em>Where We Belong</em> leads with meaning.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Held at <a href="https://www.redcliffeyouthspace.org">Redcliffe Area Youth Space,</a> it’s the kind of event that feels built from the ground up: bands, food trucks, market stalls, a relaxed “day on the green” energy—designed to be accessible and community-powered.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The impact is practical as well as emotional. Local reporting notes the event’s mix of live music and small vendors, while community messaging has emphasised that ticket proceeds support the Youth Space’s work with young people.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">That combination—culture <em>and</em> cause—is part of what makes it a signature. It doesn’t just ask people to attend. It invites them to belong.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1296" height="864" src="https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Redcliffe-Youth-Space.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1020221" srcset="https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Redcliffe-Youth-Space.jpg 1296w, https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Redcliffe-Youth-Space-300x200.jpg 300w, https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Redcliffe-Youth-Space-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Redcliffe-Youth-Space-768x512.jpg 768w, https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Redcliffe-Youth-Space-150x100.jpg 150w, https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Redcliffe-Youth-Space-488x326.jpg 488w, https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Redcliffe-Youth-Space-600x400.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 1296px) 100vw, 1296px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption"><em>Photo Credit: <a href="https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=590438679780808&amp;set=pb.100064440443883.-2207520000&amp;type=3">Redcliffe Area Youth Space/Facebook</a></em></figcaption></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Moreton Bay Multisport Festival: A Coastline that Becomes a Meeting Place</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">On paper, the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/moretonbaymultisportfest">Moreton Bay Multisport Festival</a> is a two-day program: running on Saturday, triathlon on Sunday. In practice, it’s a weekend where the foreshore becomes a shared story.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Based at Pelican Park, the event is designed around the landscape—twilight running conditions, a protected bay swim, and a bike leg that takes riders over the Ted Smout Bridge before returning to a flat foreshore run.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">What it creates is bigger than personal bests. You see it in the families lined along the route, in the strangers cheering like neighbours, in the way a “sporting event” becomes a public celebration of place. When a course threads through familiar streets and shoreline, the region watches itself moving—together.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Moreton-Bay-Multisport-Festival--1024x683.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-1020223" srcset="https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Moreton-Bay-Multisport-Festival--1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Moreton-Bay-Multisport-Festival--300x200.jpg 300w, https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Moreton-Bay-Multisport-Festival--768x512.jpg 768w, https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Moreton-Bay-Multisport-Festival--1536x1025.jpg 1536w, https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Moreton-Bay-Multisport-Festival--150x100.jpg 150w, https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Moreton-Bay-Multisport-Festival--488x326.jpg 488w, https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Moreton-Bay-Multisport-Festival--600x400.jpg 600w, https://property.moretonbayareanews.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Moreton-Bay-Multisport-Festival-.jpg 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption"><em>Photo Credit: <a href="https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=398331689595816&amp;set=pb.100082569654120.-2207520000&amp;type=3">Moreton Bay Multisport Festival/Facebook</a></em></figcaption></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">KiteFest: When the Sky Becomes the Main Street</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Every community has a moment where it looks up at the same thing. In Moreton Bay, KiteFest is that moment.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Vietjet <a href="https://www.visitmoretonbay.com.au/kitefest">Redcliffe KiteFest</a> is positioned as a flagship, free-entry event at Pelican Park—two days of colour, movement, and large-scale kite displays that pull people right to the edge of the bay.&nbsp; And it’s also a visitor event in the fullest sense: Tourism and Events Moreton Bay describes it as drawing <em>tens of thousands</em> to the peninsula, helping showcase the region as a destination.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But the social impact isn’t only measured in crowd size. It’s measured in what happens when there’s nothing to “do” except stand in the same breeze, share the same snacks, and watch the sky perform. A festival like this makes mingling easy. It lowers the barrier between locals and newcomers. It turns public space into common ground.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Abbey Medieval Festival: tradition with real-world purpose</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Not all events are about what’s new. Some are about what lasts.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The <a href="https://www.abbeymedievalfestival.com">Abbey Medieval Festival </a>has become one of the region’s defining cultural fixtures—an immersive, time-travelling weekend that’s also a fundraiser for the Abbey Museum, with the festival described by organisers as the Museum’s major fundraiser and a premier event in the Moreton Bay Region.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">That detail matters. Because it means the spectacle isn’t just spectacle: the costumes, performances, and heritage crafts become a pathway to sustaining a cultural institution. The “fun” is doing quiet work—funding, preserving, passing knowledge on.</p>

<center><center><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fabbeymedievalfestival%2Fposts%2Fpfbid0avZPnPxqpcHA5AgrKrMbUJapKpV4TuJoNWVMS8Z9UKbBXaJCYoz9xvogcoDyMxVzl&#038;show_text=true&#038;width=500" width="500" height="745" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true" allow="autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share"></iframe></center></center>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In a region that’s changing fast, events with tradition create continuity. They say: <em>this place has depth</em>. They offer residents a story that stretches behind them, not just forward.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Fairs, Markets and Local Festivals that Keep the Calendar Human</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Signature events get the headlines. But the cultural fabric is also woven by smaller, steadier threads—the ones that happen in local halls, hubs and suburban parks.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Hills Festival</strong> brings month-long activity across the Hills District, filling May with rides, entertainment, workshops, and community moments spread across multiple suburbs.<br></li>

<li><strong>Beachmere Art Festival</strong> centres local creativity—an exhibition-led weekend that celebrates life in Moreton Bay through artists, clubs and community groups.<br></li>

<li><strong>Bribie Island Classic Boat Regatta</strong> draws on maritime heritage, running as a multi-day event that’s been bringing boat enthusiasts back year after year.<br></li>

<li>And the Council’s wider community events calendar reinforces the point: the region’s culture isn’t one big moment—it’s many smaller ones, held often enough to become familiar.<br></li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">These are the events where “community” becomes less of a concept and more of a habit.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What these Events Build After the Tents Come Down</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It’s easy to talk about festivals as lifestyle. It’s truer to talk about them as infrastructure. Because every successful event leaves behind a few things that matter:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Belonging at scale.</strong> A growing region needs places where newcomers can become locals. Events do that faster than almost anything else—because they’re social, low-pressure, and shared.<br></li>

<li><strong>Local confidence.</strong> When a suburb can host something that draws people in—music, sport, art, heritage—it changes how residents speak about where they live. Pride becomes contagious.<br></li>

<li><strong>A stronger small-business ecosystem.</strong> Markets, stalls, food vendors, local creatives—festivals give them visibility and momentum in a way a regular day rarely can. (And the best events do it without feeling transactional.)<br></li>

<li><strong>Volunteer networks.</strong> Many events run on community effort. And every volunteer shift is a tiny social glue moment: people meeting people, learning how to work together, then doing it again next time.<br></li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Moreton Bay’s festivals and fairs are, in the end, a kind of regional language. They tell you what the area values—outdoor life, family-friendly spaces, sport, creativity, heritage, youth support—and they keep telling that story often enough that it starts to feel like identity.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Not a slogan. A lived pattern. And if you watch closely, you’ll notice the real magic isn’t the headline act or the perfect weather. It’s the way people linger—just a little longer than they expected to.</p>
