Mango Hill’s Long Wait Ends With New Road Connection
The early morning quiet in Mango Hill was broken by the steady hum of cars rolling across brand new bitumen—a moment many locals thought might never come. For years, families, commuters and business owners shared the same frustration: getting in and out of Mango Hill Village often meant facing long queues on Anzac Avenue, a single busy exit that bottlenecked during school runs and peak hours.
A Campaign Years in the Making
More than a decade ago, conversations began about the need for a second entrance to Mango Hill Village. Local groups, particularly the Mango Hill Progress Association, championed the cause. They consistently highlighted how congestion on Anzac Avenue affected daily life and made travel more difficult for everyone in the community. Through meetings, letters, and ongoing advocacy, the association kept the vision alive.
On Wednesday, 25 July 2025, just before sunrise at 4:15 a.m., a small group from the Mango Hill Progress Association gathered at the edge of Lamington Road. Joined by a council officer and local supporters, they crossed the new $6.8 million road connection for the first time. There were no speeches or crowds—just quiet pride as the new link between Lamington Road and Capestone Boulevard officially became part of the daily commute.
Connecting a Growing Community
This 165-metre stretch now allows Mango Hill Village residents to bypass the congestion on Anzac Avenue. It connects directly into the wider ring road network, making travel between the village and North Lakes easier and safer. Funded by Council, the project responds directly to long-standing concerns raised by the community over many years.
The project brings more than just convenience. Its design includes new traffic signals, dedicated cycle lanes, pathways, and a pedestrian crossing to make walking and cycling safer for all ages. Residents can now access Mango Hill and Mango Hill East train stations without being forced onto the main road. Landscaping and a refreshed entrance make the area more welcoming, reflecting the village’s growth.
A Community Achievement
Mango Hill Progress Association president Laurence Christie, reflecting on the years of advocacy, stated that the project is a milestone for the area and will help prevent congestion as the suburb grows. The efforts of the Council’s construction team and ongoing support from local leaders such as Cr Jodie Shipway were also recognised by the association as essential in overcoming the challenges of bringing this project to completion.
With the final stage of the ring road now open, the community’s focus is turning towards future improvements, including a new entry sign for Mango Hill Village. For local families, business owners, and commuters, this new road stands as a sign of what can be achieved when a community works together with persistence and shared vision.
